Druhý zážeh 2. stupně, který pošle SMAP na plánovanou dráhu, proběhne přibližně za 38 minut a bude trvat zhruba 12 sekund.

SMAP se oddělil od nosiče.
edit: Podle plánu se rozvinuly solární panely, telemetrie ukazuje, že produkují 18 ampér přesně podle plánu.

Družice SMAP pomalu přechází do vědecké fáze. Níže přiložená mapa vznikla mezi 4. a 11. květnem během rozběhové fáze. Mapa má rozlišení 9 kilometrů.
